(Austin) -- One of the nation’s leading state teacher association has enthusiastically endorsed State Representative Hubert Vo in his re-election campaign for the Texas House, saying he “has the proven experience our public schools, educators, and schoolchildren need.”
“Hubert Vo’s record is one-hundred percent in favor of the issues that matter to public education in Texas,” said Rita Haecker, president of the Texas State Teachers Association. “Public schools, educators, and schoolchildren could not have a better friend that Hubert Vo. He is the kind of ally our public schools, our educators, and our schoolchildren need to keep working in the Texas Legislature to protect their future.”
The Texas State Teachers Association was founded in 1880 and is the state affiliate of the National Education Association.
Vo was first elected to the Texas House in 2004 when he defeated a powerful veteran lawmaker and has been praised for what his hometown newspaper called "a refreshing willingness to work across party lines for the benefit of his constituents." (Houston Chronicle, October 8, 2006).
Last session, Vo championed a bill to improve student safety by requiring defibrillators on public school campuses and at athletic events. He has helped lead the ongoing battle siphoning tax dollars out of public schools to fund a private-school voucher scheme, a plan his opponent has said he supports “aspects of." |
